1996 - 1998: The Shocker and Charge It 2 da Game[edit]

Silkk the Shocker rose to fame in the mid-late 1990s, after striking a deal with Priority, Silkk released his 1996 debut album The Shocker in August 1996 using the alias 'Silkk' and with beats from acclaimed producers such as Craig B and DJ Daryl. After changing his name to Silkk the Shocker, he went on to appear on numerous albums from TRU's Tru 2 da Game, Mia X's Unlady Like, and Mystikal's Unpredictable. He had a brief feud with veteran rapper LL Cool J in the 90's. Shortly after the release of The Shocker, Silkk The Shocker changed his name from Silkk to acquire a new name based on his first album. He used the alias as just The Shocker on a few No Limit albums in 1997. Silkk would feature on Master P's 1997 hit 'Make 'Em Say Uhh!' which is featured on Master P's 1997 album Ghetto D, but also released as a single in early 1998. Continuing on the success of the hit single, Silkk would release his next single with labelmate Mystikal as a featured artist on one of his biggest hits of his career at the time 'It Ain't My Fault'. It Ain't My Fault gained popularity and became one of the trademark songs for Silkk the Shocker. In that same year Silkk the Shocker would feature on, at that time a new group, Destiny's Child's single 'Just Be Straight with Me',. The same year Silkk dueted with R&B singer Mýa on 'Movin' On', a song from her self-titled debut album Mýa.

1999: Made Man[edit]

In 1999, Mýa and Silkk collaborated on the lead single from his album Made Man. The track, titled 'Somebody Like Me', became one of the year's top-selling singles on the Billboard charts. Made Man's most successful single was 'It Ain't My Fault 2' featuring Mystikal became one of Silkk's biggest hits to date. Made Man was certified platinum by the RIAA in 1999 making him a big mainstream artist in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
