Oklahoma law will change Aug. 26 for people 17 or younger who are seeking a driver license with an M (motorcycle) endorsement, a media release states. Been riding around on the permit for the last 2 years. But I was under the impression that Oklahoma had a grandfather clause which stated.

Oklahoma motorcycle license age 14
Drivers who were licensed in 1995 were given the Class Mendorsement. Some may have it and not know it. This was due to agap in the law. However, it wil only be legal to ride a motorcyclewithin the state. If you go to other states, you must have theClass M on your license. Law enforcement will tell you thateveryone needs to have the class M. This could be due to lack ofknowledge or the fact that income from those fees could be lost ifyou were told the truth. My recomedation: Read the law, dont askabout it.

First Time Motorcycle Riders

Under Oklahoma DMV guidelines, anyone who drives a motorcycle must have a Class M motorcycle license or motorcycle instruction permit.

Applicants must be 16 years of age, pass the motorcycle knowledge test, a sign test and a vision screening. The final step is to pass the motorcycle skills test where you will demonstrate your competency in motorcycle operation.

Like most states, Oklahoma will waive your skills test and issue you a license if you complete an approved basic motorcycle rider safety course. These courses last anywhere from two to six weeks and include classroom instruction as well as driver training in a controlled, off-street environment. When you successfully complete this course, you will be eligible for your motorcycle driver's license without having to take your Oklahoma road test.

Prepare for the Motorcycle License Written Test

The Oklahoma DMV requires that all applicants must pass a written motorcycle knowledge test on traffic signs, motor vehicle laws and safe driving techniques. If you fail the exam, some states require you to wait until at least until the next day to take the test again and charge a re-examination fee.
